Here at Chico Affirmative Therapy, we believe that the first and most important ingredient for successful therapy is that you are the expert in your experiences. We are experts in a wide range of mental health struggles, but you are the expert in your life so we work as a partnership in helping you reach your goals. We also believe that mental illness is an illness and you shouldn’t be shamed for it. We know you are out there working hard and sometimes fighting to make a good life for yourself and we are here to partner with you. Does this mean we won’t challenge you? Of course not, but challenging has to come from care and understanding, and has to be from where you are to where you wish to go. Often challenging means helping you accept and understand yourself and from that place of acceptance figure out how to take next steps. That’s what affirmative means in Chico Affirmative Therapy.
We know that therapy can be scary and weird, so we believe in kindness. We have expertise and experience in trauma, gender dysphoria, neurodivergence, depression, anxiety, and more, but our expertise is useless in your healing journey if you don’t first feel safe in therapy.
