What to Expect
We know reaching out for therapy can be tough, so at Chico Affirmative Therapy getting started is simple. The deeper work begins once you feel supported and ready to explore what’s possible for you.
Here’s what the process looks like:
1. Send a text to get started
To begin, just text Kathy at (530) 361-5303. That’s it. You can ask about availability, say you're ready to schedule, or simply let us know you’re interested in therapy or need a medical letter of support. We'll guide you through the rest.
2. Insurance
Kathy will ask about what insurance you have. We accept a variety of insurance plans and are in network with several major providers. We also provide super bills for out-of-network therapy. Once we’ve confirmed your information, we’ll email you an invitation to our client portal and get you scheduled.
3. Your first session
Once you’re scheduled and the paperwork is complete, we’ll meet for a 55-minute intake session. This session is a chance to share more about your story, your values, and what brings you to therapy. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable — we’ll move at your pace.
Everything you say in your sessions will be kept private, with only a few legal exceptions (such as if someone is at risk of serious harm). You’re always welcome to ask questions — it’s important that you feel safe and informed from the very beginning.
4. The work
Together, we’ll explore patterns, process emotions, and move toward the changes that feel most important to you. Our work is grounded in trust, emotional safety, and unconditional positive regard.
